What is Hypnosis?
Have you ever been so involved in doing something that you have lost all sense of time? Or maybe you have driven from one place to another and arrived safely but not remembered the journey? Have you ever daydreamed?
These are all examples of an “altered state of awareness”.
Hypnosis is another example of an altered state of awareness –one that can be used for self-help. When it is used to relieve or treat physical or psychological symptoms it is called Hypnotherapy. Levels of trance may change at different points throughout a session, from active visualisation to deeply relaxed dream state and all points in between. Each person is unique and experiences hypnotherapy differently.
Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state which occurs somewhere between being fully awake and being asleep. It is usually accompanied by a feeling of deep relaxation and well-being. This in itself can be very beneficial – especially for stress related conditions.
What happens during treatment?
You will be asked about your problem. The most effective way of dealing with it will be discussed with you. Clients can choose to use hypnotherapy, or to combine hypnotherapy with distant Reiki or other appropriate techniques. No procedure will be carried out without your full approval.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the presenting problem and is different for each client. This is generally anything from one to five sessions. The number of sessions needed for your particular case will also be discussed at the first session. A session lasts about an hour.
Each client will be taught self-hypnosis. This is a life-enhancing skill you can use for the rest of your life.
Every client is provided with a tailored tape, which enables you to participate in your own therapy at home. The most important point is that YOU are in control during hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is not similar to stage hypnosis which you may have seen in the theatre or on TV. A true hypnotherapy session is a two way process. It requires the full cooperation of the client to be successful.
